Creative Project 001: Illustrated Recipe

Let's cook up some creativity with the very first monthly project!

Welcome to the first project!

I am so excited that you are here and can’t wait to dive in to our projects with you. Before we start, I wanted to give you a little bit more info about the monthly projects in general, and then we’ll go over the details of the first project, how you can participate, and all that good stuff!

You can watch the video at the top of this post or you keep reading for all the details!

Monthly projects will be released on the 1st of the month going forward

That’s the most important thing to get out of the way. Because we’re starting mid-month, I’ve created a slightly shorter project for this first one. I wanted you to be able to jump into a project right away, but nothing so big that you would be overwhelmed when March’s project drops in a few weeks!

Monthly projects will vary from month to month to keep things fresh and keep you feeling creative!

Some months the project will be a straight forward, single project like this one. Other months, you might get new instructions every week or every other week with new pieces of the project!

I’m keeping the monthly projects varied so we can all stay inspired and hopefully excited by the projects. It won’t just be a new set of 30 daily prompts delivered to your inbox month after month!

That’s not to say we won’t ever do daily prompts as one of the monthly projects, just that I’m going to try to keep you on your toes! My hope is that these monthly projects aren’t just a great creative exercise for you, but also a bit like receiving a nice present in your inbox each month.

The Path of “P”s

Each month we’re going to use the following path as a guideline for our work. This is just a suggestion, however, and you should work however feels best to you!

Each project will always start at the “Play” stage. If you want to stay there for the entire project that is a perfectly good and valid approach. You can “finish” the project there if that’s what you want!

But if you are feeling extra inspired or you want to take the project farther, you might advance to the practice or planning stages.

The last stage is the project stage which is where you would create a “finished” piece in your sketchbook, for your portfolio, or maybe even as a new product for your shop! It will always be entirely up to you. Sometimes you might want to skip stages. Sometimes you might want to follow the path all the way through! I’ll provide some guidance for each project, but never feel pressured to stick to my path if it doesn’t feel right for you. Or frankly, if you just don’t have the creative energy for it!

These projects are for you! Maybe you’ll make some pieces for your portfolio, or maybe you’ll just make a mess in your sketchbook and have a lot of fun. There’s no wrong way to do these projects.

Alright, let’s get this project started, shall we?
